Llechwedd Slate Caverns
The Project Brief
Listed as one of the top ten places to visit in North Wales by the tourism board for this area, Llechwedd Slate Caverns are a leading tourist attraction for all the family. As well as a tour of the historic victorian mines, Llechwedd is also home to a slate workshop, a number of shops and places to eat, four world-beating biking tracks, and the world’s first subterranean playground.
Piranha AV were contacted by the video production company, Zed Creative, and tasked with designing a high quality Audio Visual system to be installed in the new, surface-level reception area of the Victorian Mine Tour. This new area would provide a space for visitors to wait for the tour’s transport, whilst showing them a short video detailing the history and importance of the caverns, to introduce them to the tour. Our task was to design and install a projection system that would best display the video’s high-quality footage, therefore ensuring the success of the tour’s new reception area.
The Piranha Solution
Piranha AV installed a 3.5m wide floor-to-ceiling projector and screen to display video footage from a full high-definition, high-brightness projector from NEC’s commercial range; a projector designed to work at the highest level, around the clock. A Brightsign media player has been incorporated and programmed specifically by our in-house programmer, to play the content on a loop through the projector.
In order that the design solution be as cost-effective and energy-efficient as possible; Piranha AV installed a Crestron control system to automatically switch the projector on and off, therefore saving staff the task of having to remember to do so manually.
The sound system installed includes speakers manufactured by JBL. These compact, wall-mounted speakers were ordered in white to match the decor of the reception area. The inclusion of the Brightsign media player means audio is sent directly to the amplifier, providing superb sound-quality for the playback of the video footage and bespoke backing track
